Granollers is a city with archaeological remnants dating back 4,000 years. The most significant findings, however, are from the Roman era, particularly the necropolis of Can Trullàs.
In the 16th century, the population growth and the prosperity of the market supported the development of Granollers, with the construction of important buildings such as the new Gothic parish church of Sant Esteve, the Sant Francesc church and the Porxada (former wheat market portico). During the mid-19th century, economic activity shifted gradually from predominantly agricultural to a more industrial and commercial focus. The 20th century was marked by the diversification of the industry and urban development that responded to demographic growth.
During the 1990s, important urban planning actions were carried out such as the demolition of the old Can Trullàs Foundry, the definitive closure of the Roca Umbert Factory and the inauguration of sports facilities, such as the Circuit de Catalunya and the Palau d'Esports.
