Archive Workshops

The politics of archiving, cooking and urban planning in the metropolitan region of Barcelona are seemingly unrelated, yet they are present in one way or another in the various exhibition projects hosted in the building of the former Gustavo Gili publishing house: Black Archives: Fragments of an Anti-Colonial Metropolis, Escola de Passats: Barcelona and the Radical Political Imagination and Fora per fer Escola: Radical Practices from Catalan Pedagogies. This series of workshops aims to establish links between the three presentations of archives in order to generate new narratives to accompany our visit of Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana.

The Workshops last 90 minutes and are available in Catalan, Spanish and English.

Workshops "What do sea creatures know about pedagogy?"

This series of workshops reconnects participants with the educational practices of Escola del Mar, part of the Fora per fer escola research. It offers a space for collective action and reflection on the intersections of art, science, and education through a variety of experimental events. These include talks, workshops, and performances by artists, scientists, educators and environmental activists held at Barcelona's Somorrostro beach. The project draws inspiration from Sara Torres-Vega’s research on Escola del Mar’s tradition of open-air education, which extends beyond a human-centered approach to pedagogy. Instead, it aims to introduce a contemporary perspective that acknowledges the pivotal role of the sea within our global, multi-species ecosystem.

The programme is organised in collaboration with Centre de la Platja, a municipal space of Barcelona for environmental education, sustainability and ocean literacy and is supported by Fundación Daniel & Nina Carasso.

No registration required.

Family Workshop "The Factory of Futures"

What worlds can we imagine together? Guided by our mediation team, we'll explore some of the proposals within The Three Chimneys and envision the futures we desire, with landscapes and the beings that inhabit them. To bring these worlds to life, we'll create masks, characters, actions, and other elements to help us activate these possible worlds.

Every Saturday from 10.00 to 13.00 at the Three Chimneys.

The workshop is designed for families with children from five years old and is available in Catalan, Spanish and English. You can join and leave the workshop at any moment. No registration required

Workshops take place at the Mobile Venue of every Focus Week and are open to all ages. They last 90 minutes and are available in Catalan, Spanish and English.

Urban Routes "Memory of the Smoke"

Through Urban Routes, educational, environmental and social organisations from Sant Adrià de Besòs and the surrounding areas explore local realities and histories from different ecological, historical and political perspectives. The routes aim to enrich and expand the reflections on the local area presented in the community project Memory of the Smoke at the Three Chimneys. Itinerary organised by Museu of History of Barcelona (MUHBA)

Route last between 90 minutes and three hours, have a maximum capacity of 16 people and are available in Catalan and Spanish.

The programme is supported by Fundación Daniel & Nina Carasso.

Family Workshop "Wandering tales" at the Mobile Venue

The Mobile Venue is nomadic, moving from place to place. Along its journey, it gathers a wealth of experiences, emotions and stories, much like Manifesta itself. As it arrives in different cities across the Barcelona metropolitan region, it invites families to join in this collective, evolving narrative, which will continue to grow over the coming weeks. Together, we’ll share stories that will be passed on, allowing others to learn from them.
This workshop is designed for families with children aged five and over and is available in Catalan, Spanish and English. You can join or leave at any time, with no registration required.

To check the schedule, please refer to the activity programme for each Focus Week.
