Over the past three months, Interconnected Workshop: A Radio Relay sessions have travelled to the participating cities of Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana, fostering connections across different municipalities. These workshops invited participants to explore their cities through sound, transforming everyday urban noises into collaborative works of art.

Led by sound artist Hannah Kemp-Welch in collaboration with Manifesta 15’s mediation team, the initiative encouraged residents to engage deeply with their surroundings, reflecting on the sounds that characterise their cities. From the hum of traffic to the lively chatter of markets, each workshop captured the distinctive essence of its urban environment.

The workshops welcomed participants of all ages and backgrounds, requiring no prior experience. Over the course of twelve weeks, local stories, cultural histories and aspirations for the region’s future were woven into these sonic creations, culminating in a series of audio works.

These sonic postcards can now be enjoyed on Manifesta’s SoundCloud channel, offering a rich auditory map of the metropolitan region. Through this project, Nomadic Listenings has become a powerful platform for dialogue, connecting residents and celebrating the sounds that both unify and distinguish their shared spaces.
