On the 16th November, Casa Gomis hosted the celebration of Ágapē, a school project led by the collective Paisanaje as part of Manifesta 15 Barcelona Metropolitana. This project builds upon collective’s research into the Escola de Bosc and its influence on contemporary school canteens in Catalonia, aiming to raise awareness among students about the impact of consumption habits and food production chains.
As part of the project, Paisanaje, in collaboration with the Education Department of Manifesta 15, recreated an olive recipe from the Escola de Bosc, originally written by a student in 1918. This initiative involved 74 students from Pi d’En Xandri School in Sant Cugat del Vallès and received support from Paidos-Fundesplai and the Sant Cugat del Vallès City Council. The olives used to prepare the recipe were provided by Olis El Puig from El Papiol.
During the celebration, the recovered olive recipe and other local products were offered to attendees, encouraging reflection on the cultural heritage of traditional recipes, eating habits, supply chains, and the importance of personal, social, and environmental care.
Additionally, educational materials developed as part of the project were distributed, drawing a comparison between the extensive value chains of conventional food systems with numerous intermediaries and the shorter circuits of locally sourced organic products. These materials reinforced the project’s message, highlighting sustainability and responsible consumption.
Ágapē began in December 2023 with a banquet at Torre Negra in Sant Cugat del Vallès, where local stakeholders gathered to advocate for food sovereignty and engage in meaningful dialogue on sustainable food practices. The initiative underscores the essential connections between food, community and environmental care, leaving a lasting legacy of culinary heritage and sustainability. It also aims to promote awareness about the importance of consuming locally and regionally sourced food.
