Founded by Oihana García and Jordi Rodríguez, OJO Estudio emphasises ethical, sustainable and innovative design. Cultural greenhouse is the studio’s winning proposal for the architectural competition to design functional spaces for Manifesta 15 at the Three Chimneys. The project focuses on creating a carbon-neutral, low-emission space using recycled materials. How can life grow in a formerly polluted and arid terrain in an agile, sustainable and efficient way? OJO’s answer: Reuse greenhouse systems and other recycled materials to form a flexible, nomadic structure adaptable to fluctuating needs. The design includes alternating interior and exterior spaces to foster new scenarios. Just as a greenhouse protects and gives life to plants, the project aims to care for and grow cultural and social relations. The ecological footprint is minimized by reusing prefabricated systems and incorporating recycled water systems, solar energy and permaculture plants.
